Nuneaton NewsNuneaton public support call for an end to war in Afghanistan (August 21, 2009)
The Nuneaton public are overwhelmingly in favour of British troops being pulled out of Afghanistan. As the 200th soldier was killed in Afghanistan this weekend members of Nuneaton Socialist Party were out campaigning on the streets calling for an end to the UK’s involvement in the ‘unwinnable war’.
Socialist Party members have collected over 500 signatures on a petition over the last two weekends in Nuneaton Town centre and believe there is a massive majority of the town’s population who want the slaughter of British troops to end.
Steve Gee, Secretary of the Nuneaton Socialist Party branch, said,
“This is an unwinnable war which the UK and US should never have started. We have had massive support from the public in Nuneaton, including from people who have family out there.”
“We call for an immediate end to the US/UK intervention in Afghanistan.”
Steve Gee also added, “We want to see the money wasted on this bloody conflict spent on education and job creation. It’s a scandal that young people are joining the army and ending up in places like Afghanistan because of a tragic lack of career opportunities in the town” Click here to return to the Nuneaton News page |
