Voters in Camp Hill reject the BNP

(December 11, 2009)

The BNP failed to retain a seat on Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council in a by election in the Camp Hill ward last night.  The BNP are now down to one councillor, the by election was caused by the previous BNP councillor standing down due to ‘work commitments’.

This will be a major blow to the BNP in Nuneaton who threw everything at retaining this seat, standing their West Midlands full time organiser Alwyn Deacon.  The public of Nuneaton were even subjected to a ‘festive BNP lorry’ with Pinky and Perky singing Christmas songs at the recent switching on of the town’s Christmas lights!

Camp Hill is a working class ward that had previously been a solid Labour seat.  No one will see this as a vote of confidence in New Labour, more a rejection of the racist ideas of the British National Party.  With the BNP still gaining 34% of the vote it’s clear that what’s needed now is a real alternative for working class people to vote for in future elections.
