Faced with huge opposition to their plans to cut the county's fire services, council bosses spent thousands of pounds on private consultants to undermine protesters case. Questioning the public's reasons for objecting to a less safe service, the consultants dismissed protesters arguments as "emotional" and "political" and not understanding the councils 'modernisation' plans.

It's now out of order to have a view. In fact such was the lack of understanding that firefighters and even neighbouring county fire chiefs had expressed concerns about adequate fire cover and public safety.
So good are the skills of the consultants that they said 2,000 Kenilworth people had signed petitions when in fact 11,000 had!
