Cllr Dave Nellist sent out this message of support to the workers on strike early Wednesday 30th November morning:
“I fully support the strikes taking place today. We need to build a mass movement against the cuts, both at a national level and locally here in Coventry. Yesterday’s escalation of the cuts, with thousands of workers in the city now facing 4 or 5 years of wage cuts on top of these increases to pension schemes, must be fought.
The big three parties all share the view that public sector workers should pay more for their pensions, work longer and get less. I do not agree with this, and will continue to speak out publicly; putting the record straight on pensions.
I hope to meet many of the strikers today personally, on the picket lines or at the city’s strike day march and rally. I will continue to support the trade unions and ordinary working people and their families, both inside and outside the Council Chamber.”
In Solidarity, Cllr Dave Nellst.
